Ceremonies

Ceremonies were important to the Washoe people. The Washoe went back and forth between their communities to participate in ceremonies. When one group planned for a festival they sent a messenger to invite their friends. . The messenger took a piece of string and knotted it to show how many more days until the festival, like a count-down. For the Harvest Festival in the fall families would do a mini festival at their home before going to a nearby pine or oak grove. In the grove they would eat and play games like the Olympics.
